߲ݴý Diversity & Inclusion “Empower U”  Training

Presented by Alex Willis

߲ݴý is excited to announce a new diversity and inclusion leadership program organized by our ߲ݴý Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee. As we’ve previously shared, the main purpose of this committee is to advise, educate and provide resources to ߲ݴý members. We want to encourage our members to apply a diversity and inclusion lens to their policies, programs, and practices. Our vision is to seek diversity, create inclusion and drive accountability.

To assist and educate our member companies and their employees on what racism is, how to recognize it on construction sites, and how to eliminate it for the good of all, we’re kicking off a yearlong engagement with , a growing force in corporate training and development with a tailored approach called EMPOWER U for the construction and subcontracting trade industries. Led by Alex Willis, Leadership Surge delivers high-energy, highly effective services and programs that positively impact organizational culture. Alex will be diving into topics about trust, respect, overcoming judgement, compassion and empathy. Training will consist of workshops, webinars, videos, and independent activities, including an individualized assessment.

Session 2: Four Lenses

February 22, 2022
10:00AM-12:00Noon

Course Description

Every individual has a unique spectrum of personality traits that impact the way he or she communicates. During the Right-Thinking® workshop, participants are introduced to The Four Lenses®.

This personality assessment helps everyone identify and understand their own temperament (i.e., Green, Gold, Blue, Orange). Groups then learn how to communicate with each other through a process of empathic listening. Rather than judge others for flawed behaviors, participants learn how to value diversity and appreciate unique perspectives. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of themselves and a greater social awareness and acceptance of others.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • understand people better
  • learn to communicate with power and purpose
  • reduce stress and conflict in relationships
  • use practical techniques to increase their leadership influence

Session 4: Overcoming Judgement

June 14, 2022
10:00AM-12:00Noon

Course Description

An important element of diversity is “open awareness”. Open awareness refers to a quality of consciousness that is not evaluative or actively shaped by pre-existing ideas or intentions, but is fully receptive to allowing the experience to simply occur “as it is”. In this workshop, open awareness is introduced by addressing the evaluative nature of the mind. While open awareness involves non-judgment, most of our daily awareness is clouded by countless judgments and evaluations. By becoming aware of these judgments, an important obstacle of open awareness is removed. In this workshop, participants experience the judgmental nature of their mind and learn about the problematic aspects of judgments to overcome their specific bias challenges and contribute to a culture of greater authenticity and psychological safety at your organization

Session 6: Developing Compassion & Empathy

October 13, 2022
10:00AM-12:00Noon

Registration Link: Calendar Invite

Course Description

߲ݴý is proud to continue our partnership with Leadership Surge to create inclusive work environments in which all people feel as though they belong. In our next training session, we are exploring how compassion plays into inclusive work environments. Compassion is when you notice another person is in need, and you have concern for them that you want to show. Compassion can include a number of components: feeling in your heart for others; understanding and caring about the feelings of others; understanding what others need or want; and wanting to do something that might help. To know if someone needs compassion we look for clues, like emotions. We show compassion by saying and doing things that show others we care.

Compassion is when you SEE someone in need, CARE about their feelings, and DO something to show you care.
